On the request of some readers, here are my views on the Mangalore incident
Every society during its march of civilization evolves a set of values and code of societal behaviour. India as the oldest living civilization has over the aeons produced a culture which believes in respecting diverse views and behavioural patterns experienced during its interaction with other societies. However, as every society has a core culture and a value system, interactions with other societies may result in producing something which is not in conformity with the traditional value systems of the society.
People can express their indignation on what they dislike but violence and vandalism are completely unacceptable. It should be left to the better judgment of the people to accept or reject such behavioural patterns or values which have come through the interactions in a highly mobile and globalized world.
Violence or ban by the State do not produce any lasting effects. Instead, awareness about the consequences of such practices should be brought through dialogue and education.
I am fully confident that our culture has an inherent strength to separate evil from good and preserve the value system and the health of the society.
Mangalore incidents are an occasion to pause and ponder as to how we strike a balance between tradition and the emerging trends among the younger generation.

I am agree with you sir.
Ethics should inculcate from home , school, college, society. Pub culture is definitely culture of west may be we can say world has become so small so to avoid its impact on us we to be stronger morally.
I agree. But I would like to know your thoughts on punishment to people who were involved in violence and vandalism in Manglore. What will be the ideal case so that this doesn't happen again in India?
To me - Hang those animals who were involved in harassing girls.
Hi Mr Joshi,
I was/am an ardent supporter of BJP , but of late i have realized all political parties are the same.
let me list some of the reasons i can think of:
1. leaders fighting with each other - uma bharti and kalyan singh
2. Corruption - u know i met a contractor on a train and said BJP is better than congress , u know what he said he said kalyan singh was a contractor like him a few years back and now he is a multi-millionaire how? he also said that Congress leaders have already made their money over the years so once in a while they do something constructive, but BJP leaders aim is just to make money
3. All this hindutava nonsense - like managalore attach and then Yedurappa saying we will ban PUbs, girls can get raped and not educated, she will be killed for there gender but cannot go to PUbs hilarious!!
4. first BJP says that they support nuclear deal but just because congress is anchoring it now, they will raise issues
5. why dont they say anything about the north indian issue in Maharashtra
6. why dont the leaders raise RTI to get information and leak it to Public
7. why was the cash for MPs Scam not taken to court by BJP< if they have the evidence, why not take it to court.
i can go on and on....
Sir, like you have rightly pointed out is that we have to strike a balance between tradition and the emerging trends among the younger generation.
Todays generation is intelligent & can sift between right and wrong but when things are pushed down their throats, they tend to react not necessarily in correct manner
I do agree with your views, but still can't understand why doesn't this happens in states like Maharashtra, Haryana, or any state that is not administered by BJP, this really shows that there is some hidden support of BJP to these organisations, which always helps others to raise fingers towards BJP. YES ! Ram Sena must be Hindu Activist Organisation, But certainly not POLICE or LAW, and they must be punished hard as per the law of country.
Now Valentine's Days just ahead, and certainly organisations like Ram Sena will bring bad name to BJP. BJP must do something!
You need to be more specific , your comments are naive .
Very balanced view, Sir.
To strike a balance between tradition and the emerging trends among the younger generation would work well with the youngsters.
Today's generation is intelligent & capable of shifting between what is right, so let them decide for themselves..........
Here the question is not about emerging trends and traditional values, but the fundamental rights being thrashed.
The present generation being intelligent. I don't agree with that fact. May be the present generation has all the tools for information, but it is upto their own moral conscience what to do and what not..!!
As I mentioned in my previous comment on the other topic, I believe these violence are triggered by unemployed hindu youths..
Solution:
Education
Employment..!
Jai Hind.nu
all is due to lack of knowledge whether it is spritual or scientific
all this leads to road of degradation in our own INDIA
but we really have to ponder and
follow the ideas and contemplations of great leader in both field Vivekananda & JRD TATA.
They have shown us the way we all need to follow and implement...
Who will decide what’s good and what’s bad .....not few people is society ...ones consent must decide these things . elders in the society can show directions and make youngsters aware of the consequences and let them decide what to do as I think consequences after the incidents in owns life are the best teachers .....
it is always a debatable question what is good and what is bad ......things approved by mass public is suppose to be good and rejected one is bad but that is not necessary to be a truth
I personally think that unless and until Things that does not affect others are the sole matter of the ones choice and any interference in such matter should be brought down.

Dr.Joshi,
You are known and respected for your free & frank views. you are not the one to pussfoot around and obfuscate. you have never hesitated in calling a spade a spade, or rather a shovel. Why this nimby-pamby response?
Why dont you categorically condemn the conduct and actions of so called Ram sene and the people behind it who are connected to the Sangh parivar?
By keeping quite, you are indirectly endorsing the retrogade and regressive thinking of these lumpen elements. The loser will ultimately be BJP because more than 50% of electorate being below 30, you will end up alientating the youth and progressive society.
